Main Deck

This past weekend has been working on the deck for the main part of the ship, cutting and sanding it until I had a clean tight fit. Following that it was then down to adding the filler and adding the edging strip all the way around before blending it in with the paintwork. All that’s…

Rear Deck

Today we made a start on the rear deck, as the flat clear lacquer had now cured, so we can now start fitting the decking and work out the placement of the two rear main guns. We also needed to start work on the super structure of the ship and part of this structure continues…

Hull Update

Today’s little job was to finish the paintwork on the hull, which was to remove any marks by using a fine brush and spotting the marks. Once done for all the three colours it was time to prep the flat clear lacquer, as we were going to need four or five coats to ensure the…

Hull Paint Work

This week we have been working on the hull with the basic paint work, which started with the anti fouling red. The anti fouling took 6 thin coats to get a balanced coverage, which was around 4 hours airbrushing. This was followed by masking the hull off to stop over spray from the home fleet…

CAD drawing. 3D printed parts awaiting a…

Rudder fitting

Today’s job is to finally fit the rudder, not a complex job however time was required to ensure the rudder is aligned and completely true. We did a fair amount of prep work to make the mount and hull shape correct, and this has made fitting the rudder a easier process. There was some additional…

Stabiliser Bars

Making and fitting the stabiliser bars took two days as we had to cut and shape the timber to form the correct profile. Once this was complete it was then a few hours work to steam and bend it to fit the hull’s profile. We needed to fit it to the hull and this was…

Prop Shafts

The next stage was fitting the prop shafts, which took a day to cut and fit. All the parts needed to be alined correctly, and then the glued into position which took some time as you can see from the photos we had to tape parts into place to allow for the two part epoxy…
